If roughly about 5-15 of your friends comment your posts why do you bother holding on to your thousands of friends online you never met? What % of YOUR online friends do you think read what you post?
asked by Elias Shams 2 days ago

I learned that out of my 2000 fans and followers I have had on Facebook Twitter, and LinkedIn, only 100 of them care. I have started disconnecting myself from those who don’t care so I can focus on those smaller number who care. I am now down to 1000 in total and going lower :-) You?

I usually don't connect with people on Facebook professionally. The majority of my FB friends are people whom I know or met on a social level, or did business with, then became friends. It's also been a way to catch up with friends I've lost contact with. I usually ignore friend requests from business connections, and refer them to connect with me on LinkedIn & Twitter.

There are a couple of exceptions, and those people I separate into my 'business contacts list'.

I have been picky about my online friends. I only use Facebook and awesomize.me. I have either met them personally, met them online through a mutual friend (live or online) or because I got pimped once in Mafia Wars!

I do not hesitate to unfriend anyone that offends me or uses my Facebook page for self-promotion.

I have yet to find value in FB or Twitter. I truly think it's like, you know, an age thing. LinkedIn works as a resource / directory for professionals, not socializing, IMHO. Blog posts are topical and for audiences, not friends. Friends I email, and they email me. Very good friends call me. Very, very good friends I go out (or in) with. I also have a dog and a cat.

From what I remember you were the one pushed me to start using Facebook. Now asking this? :-)
