Open Standards are good. Open standards allow us to re-use components and leverage existing solutions. Without open standards we'd have stove-pipe solutions everywhere, and sharing of information will be awkward and result in a less productive market place over all. Open standard will always win. Look what Facebook did to Myspace. Linkedin is just about waking up and have started opening up. They know facebook has the potential to even shut them down. Same for Android and iPhone.
